Pediatric Occupational Therapy

How our occupational therapists can help your child

Pediatric occupational therapy focuses on aiding children in developing the necessary skills for them to grow into independent, functional adults. Physical impairment, injuries, and a variety of other issues can hamper a kid’s ability to perform common tasks or progress in a standard fashion with social and/or cognitive development. The longer a child goes without learning these skills, the more problems can compound—this makes the skills of a pediatric occupational therapist critical to their patients. Our therapists have master’s degrees to work with children of all ages, from infants to teenagers. The occupational therapy practitioners at Sonrisas Therapies enable children to full lives, by promoting health and preventing—or helping to live better with—injury, illness or disability.

Why might your child need to see an occupation therapist

Pediatric occupational therapy can benefit a variety of children, from premature infants, to kids with ADHD, to those struggling to spell, write or read. Typically, children see occupational therapists for a number of different reasons, such as:
Cognitive skills – remembering sequences, shapes and letters
Fine motor skills – finger dexterity, hand strength, and wrist and forearm control
Gross motor skills – balance and body coordination
Self-care tasks – bathing, dressing, and self-feeding
Social skills – listening, taking turns and following directions

Our Occupational Therapists make sure that your child enjoys the treatment

Children don’t like to just sit in therapy, so our occupational therapists strive to make the sessions feel like play. By participating in motivating activities such as board games, crafts, building obstacle courses, and many more, these children develop skills while having fun at the same time! At Sonrisas, we help children develop necessary physical, cognitive and sensory skills so they can perform daily tasks with greater independence. Remember, specific treatment options will vary for each child, as will the overall duration of therapy. For questions about your child, be sure to consult Sonrisas Therapies.
